Nella giornata di oggi, per la rubrica Futurbola, vi proponiamo un giovane prospetto scozzese, centrocampista delle giovanili del Notts County, ed ormai veterano delle nazionali giovanili scozzesi. Parliamo di Dominic Brownhill, centrocampista che ha trascorso la stagione 2014-15 nel Leicester, salvo poi cambiare maglia nell’anno più importante delle Foxes: lui però si dice soddisfatto dell’anno giocato con la terza squadra di Nottingham. I Magpies (stesso soprannome del Newcastle), sono la società calcistica professionistica più antica in assoluto: nata nel 1862, il club è gestito da una dirigenza lungimirante, che vuole assicurarsi un futuro brillante anche con giovani come Brownhill. Centrocampista molto fisico, si dice più a suo agio quando agisce nelle zone offensive del centrocampo, anche se spesso e volentieri è utilizzato anche in mediana. Andiamo a dare un’occhiata alle sue parole, in un’interessante intervista atta anche a scoprire qualche dettaglio dei settori giovanili inglesi.
Ho dato un’occhiata a parecchi tuoi video e ti ho visto agire in tantissimi ruoli del centrocampo: dove preferisci giocare?
E’ vero, spesso cambio ruolo anche durante la partita, ma in assoluto preferisco giocare da centrocampista centrale di spinta. Il mio è un gioco quasi a tutto campo, ma preferisco le mansioni offensive a quelle difensive.
Com’è giocare per la Scozia? Ricordi la prima esperienza in assoluto in nazionale?
Per noi scozzesi in particolare giocare con la nazionale è un’esperienza fantastico, è tutto molto speciale. La prima volta che fui chiamato fu nel 2014, facemmo un tour per la Turchia affrontando anche squadre di club: qualcosa di indimenticabile!
A tuo avviso il calcio scozzese può rinascere con i talenti delle vostre giovanili?
Ci sono parecchi giovani interessanti praticamente in ogni singola sezione della nazionale, così come ce ne sono nelle giovanili dell’Inghilterra. Contiamo di risorgere in poco tempo.
Quanto pensi ti manca per diventare un giocatore professionista?
Ovviamente il Leicester è un club di rango superiore rispetto al Notts County, ma qui ho potuto migliorarmi parecchio perchè il settore giovanile è ben attrezzato: penso che l’anno prossimo dovrò dare tutto ciò che ho per raggiungere la prima squadra.
Che sensazione da giocare per il club professionistico più antico del mondo?
Quando giochi a calcio non ci pensi, ma riflettendoci è una buona sensazione: c’è molta tradizione e va rispettata.
Cosa deve fare un giovane calciatore per migliorare giorno dopo giorno?
Penso che si debba sempre lavorare duro, ogni volta che ci si allena o che si gioca. Anche credere nelle proprie abilità è importantissimo per il fattore psicologico, così come restare dedito a ciò che si fa anche quando non si è in campo.
I tuoi genitori ti hanno aiutato nel mondo del calcio?
Loro ci sono sempre stati per me, sono anche appassionati in generale di questo sport.
Due ultime curiosità prima di concludere: chi è il tuo idolo? Che squadra tifi?
Sono un tifoso del Manchester United da quando sono nato, ma il mio idolo è Steven Gerrard. So che può sembrare strano perchè parliamo di un giocatore molto rivale dei Red Devils, ma non si può non amarlo!

Today, Futurbola propose a young scottish player, a midfielder who plays in the development squads of Notts County, by now a veteran of Scotland young selections. We are talking of Dominic Brownhill, midfielder who in 2014-15 played for Leicester City, and who changed team in the most important Foxes’ season: anyway, he seems satisfied of his year with the third team of Nottingham. The Magpies (same nickame of Newcastle Football Club) are the most ancient professional football club in the whole world: borned in 1862, the club is guided by a chairman who is very farsighted, who wants a bright future through young players like Brownhill. Very solid midfielder, he told us that he prefer to play without defensive duties, focusing on the offensive phase, even if he often plays as a central defensiv mid. Let’s have a look to his words, in an interesting interview useful also for discover some secret of the english and scottish football.
I saw some video and many times you’ve played in different position of the midfield. Where can you play the best?
It’s true, I often change my role also during matches, but I prefer to play as an holding centre mid. I’m nearly a box-to-box midfielder, but in general I prefer to play offensively instead of defensively.
How is like playing for Scotland? Do you remember the first time you’ve been called for the national team?
For us Scottish is very important to represent our nation, it’s fantastic, and everything is very special. The first time I’ve been called was for a tour around Turkey with the national team, and we’ve also faced some clubs teams. It has been absolutely amazing.
Do you think that scottish football can improve with young players like you?
There are loads of decent talents in any section of the scottish national teams, and also in England. We hope and we are positive on rise again in a few years.
Do you think to be close or far to professional football?
I know that Leicester City first team is a much bigger team that Notts County, but here I’m happy beacause I can improve in an important development team. I think that if I continue in this way the first team wouldn’t be very far.
What are the sensation of playing for the most ancient professional club in the world?
When you’re on the pitch you don’t have time to think about it, but if I take a minute to think is a good sensation: there is a huge tradition and we have to respect it.
In your opinion, what a young footballer shall do for improving day by day?
I think that the most important think is never stop of working hard, every time you are on the pitch for training or for playing a match. For the psychological factor is also important to never forget how good you are at doing something related with football, and also stay dedicated also in the private life.
Did your parents supports you in your football carreer?
There are always there for me, and in general they see many football matches.
Two question before the end of the interview: who is your idol? And wich club do you support?
I’ve always been a Manchester United fan, but my idol is Steven Gerrard. I know that it’s a little bit of a paradox, beacause Reds and Red Devils hate each other, but you can’t hate Stevie G.
